Excursions

 

Excursions should be planned well in advance. Teachers should consult with their KLA  Co-ordinators who will then consult with the Co-ordinator of Teaching & Learning. Teachers running excursions must complete an application for the excursion.  This application requires careful planning concerning intended outcomes, costing (please see Jenny Holloway in regard to this), travel, accommodation and staffing. It is the responsibility of the teacher(s) concerned to do the research, planning and communication required.

 

All excursions require appropriate parent approval. Overnight and water excursions also require CEO Approval.

Core Beliefs

 

Excursions offer students the opportunity to participate in education related experiences outside the normal school environment. While there is recognition of the advantages of these experiences, it is important that all safety issues are carefully considered when organizing such an excursion. When determining initial arrangements, it is important to consider the cost to the students and to ensure that no student is disadvantaged through an inability to meet the financial requirements.

A teacher's duty of care towards students exists wherever there is a teacher-student relationship. This is true not only during normal school routine, but also during camps and on excursions.

The application for an excursion must be supported by the relevant KLA Coordinator and the Teaching and Learning Coordinator. The AP Curriculum will make a recommendation to the AP Administration and a decision to approve or not will be made at this point.
