McAuley House                                      Blue

2016 Captains: Samuel Smith and Willilam Canellis

Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1831 in Dublin. The Sisters of Mercy have been caring for the sick and elderly in Young and the South West Slopes since 1923. This has been through Mt. St. Joseph Hospital, St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and the establishment and expansion of the Mercy Care Centre in Young. They have also been involved in education for over a century in Harden and Cootamundra.


Rice House                                           Red

2016 Captains: Dominic Trinder and Bonnie King

Edmund Ignatious Rice founded the Christian Brothers in 1820 in Ireland.  The Brothers resided and taught in Young from 1925 to 1992.  What we now know as A block was most of their school.  The Brothers were once again involved in Young when Br Peel was principal at Hennessy from 2008 to 2010.


Nagle House                                         Green

2016 Captains: Ryan Connell and Jonte Powderly

Nano Nagle (1718-1784) was the founder of the Presentation Sisters. The Presentation Sisters resided and taught in Young for 103 years from 1886-1989. They still have a presence in Young with one of their sisters living in retirement opposite the College but who still attends College events.


Gallagher House                                    Gold

2016 Captains:Annika Cavanagh and Sarah Roberts

Right Reverend Doctor John Gallagher was Bishop of the Goulburn Diocese from 1900-1923. He was born in Ireland in 1846 and arrived in Australia in February 1870. He worked in Goulburn, Yass and Wagga Wagga. He received national recognition as an educator and a classics scholar.


Sports Houses Involvement

There is an expectation that ALL students involve themselves in the annual sporting activities of the:


Students should attend the sporting activity in the College sports uniform or wearing the colours appropriate to their house colour. Students must wear clothing appropriate to sporting fixtures that they will be involved in. Students who do not attend annual sporting fixtures or who are wearing inappropriate attire need to be referred to the specific Year Coordinator, the Sports Coordinator and the Director of Community.
